I was doing some testing of SL 2015. I set up an attachment record to the chart of accounts as shown below:
Then I went into the Chart of Accounts and attached a file by uploading. That worked just fine (I.E. just like version 2011.)
Then when I tried to link to a file I received the following two screens:
At that point the record would not save and the Chart of Accounts Application would not close. I had to force it closed with the task manager.
Has anyone else run into this?
I Haven't tested it at all, but this jumps out at me just reading your message:
That the problem but I'm not entering it. I am simply browsing to the location of the file I want to link to and then the application inserts the "http:"
I just did a quick and dirty test to see if I can reproduce it. It worked out ok in my test db on the voucher screen.
The client I just rolled 2015 out to is going to want this implemented so your post really caught my eye.
In your test you linked not uploaded, correct? Uploading works for me but not linking.
Yep, you're correct. The Link option seems to be broken in every way I play around with it.
I have written bug 34949 to follow this issue. Here are the test steps from that bug.
1 - Attachments Configuration
Existing File Location
*Just point to a valid UNC path
2 - Chart of Accounts Maintenance
F4 on the first account in the list (1030)
On the Notes/attachment button, select Attachments
Click "upload" to upload a new file
Upload any random file
Notice it works fine
3 - Still in Chart of Accounts Maintenance
Select a different account (1040)
On the notes/attachments button, select attachments
Link to an existing file in the UNC path (the file you uploaded in step 2 is fine)
Notice you get the following error:
System Message 333
Error reading file The remote server returned an error: (404) Not Found..
In the background, notice it has "http://somewhere/something" in the "location" field
It seems to be incorrectly switching the UNC path unto a URL.

No, it has not been addressed at this time.
Has this been addressed yet? We have the exact same issue as well when linking...however it does not seem to be screen-specific.
Set up in Administration>Attachments Configuration w/mapped drive.
Are you setting this up and grabbing it from the same machine with the exact same rights to that location (if you type in the unc in field explorer, do you see the file?)
