Unable to find out ‘Exclude’ specific financial dimension options for a range of dimension values in D365F&O?

In this blog post we shall delve into a workaround which excludes a specific dimension or a range of dimension values.

Let us understand this by actual requirement and an example.

Requirement: User wants to setup a condition for range of GL accounts with financial dimension (Site) as mandatory, but user wants to exclude one specific ‘Site’ value or a range of dimension values.

Excluding dimension values is currently not available in D365F&O. Below are the only options available.
  • is
  • begins with
  • ends with
  • is between and includes.
  • is between
  • is greater than and includes.
  • is greater than
  • is less than and includes.
  • is less than
  • is like
Example: Dimension values for Site range from S001 to S009 and user wants to exclude dimension S005, let us see how we can achieve this.

In this instance, 2 advance rules should be created with range S001 to S004 and S006 to S009.

Step 1: Advance rule structure creation:

Navigate to General Ledger > Chart of accounts > Structures > Advance rule structures.

Create New structure > Provide Structure name > Description > Click Ok.

Add segment > Add Site > Click Add segment.

Navigate down to Allowed value details section > Tick ‘Blank values are allowed’ > Then start adding rules stepwise as per below screen.

Activate the rule structure.

Step 2: Mapping advance rule to account structure and setting up required condition.

Navigate to General Ledger > Chart of accounts > Structures > Configure account structures.

Select the right account structure > Advance rules > New > Add required condition stepwise as per below screen.

Step 3: Testing the configured condition.

Navigate to General ledger > Journal entries > General Journals.

Click New > Add journal name > Go to Lines > Add the GL account (110180) for which advance rule has been set > Check if S005 is excluded from the list of dimension values for Site.

PLEASE TEST THIS THOROUGHLY BEFORE APPLYING IN CLIENT ENVIRONMENTS.

That’s all for this blog post. Keep Exploring!!

THANK YOU!
