.stl files loading into D365 Guides showing up as large objects and crashing on HL2

I have an .stl file with <10,000 faces that I am trying to load into D365 Guides, and place the part as an author on the guide.

A CAD software is used, and the part is scaled appropriately. The part is then loaded into blender, physically reduced in size (scale), then modified with decimate (reduce number of triangles).

When I load a part into guides that has been through the process, it bogs down the system, and sometimes crashes the app and returns me to the start screen.

The file size is 1-3mb for each of these parts.

Any guidance on how to prevent the guide from crashing?

    When loading .stl files into D365 Guides, ensure that the files are properly formatted and compatible with the platform.     Hi Maxs3 - you mentioned in the title that the models appear to be huge. By default STL files are imported with a scale of 1 meter. This can cause huge models if your expected unit of measurement is something like 1cm. I would first try exporting to FBX, which will allow you to set a scale. You mentioned using Blender:

    1. Open the model in Blender.
    2. Click on the model to select it
    3. Select File -> Export -> FBX
    4. Make sure the "Selected Objects", "Mesh" and "Apply unit" checkboxes are selected
    5. Change the scale to 0.001 (it may display 0.00 but if you click the field again, you will see the correct value) 
    6. Select the folder, give your model file a name and click on the "Export FBX" button.

    Note: I haven't checked Blender lately so let me know if these instructions are outdated or you have any troubles.
