Changing Inventory Dimensions labels for a specific legal entity

Posted on by 29
Hi,

I need to change the product variant dimensions labels specific to the legal entity.
So, for legal entity A, the product variant dimensions labels will be standard (config, size, color etc) but for legal entity B I want to change it to a custom label (type, breed etc)

One way is to use the Saved Views feature. However, the risk involved here is that they will revert to their original state if the views are deleted.

Another way is to customise them.  Following are the two ways I found so far:
  1. Extending the product variant dimensions' EDTs as explained in this blog: https://dynamicsaxknowledge.wordpress.com/2017/03/11/renaming-product-dimensions
However, this will update the label throughout the system and not be specific to a particular legal entity.
  2. Set the labels on each form opening through customization. This is doable but the list of forms is enormous and will take significant time.

Is there any other way of doing this customization?

    Hi Daniyal,

I will add my two cents here.

When using the saved views, there is an option to publish them to security roles. In that case, they will be saves as organizational views that can't be just deleted by the user. Still, they can switch the view and make own personalizations.

Another option can be adding new dimensions for legal entity B by extending the number of dimensions. You can read more here: Add new inventory dimensions through extension - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn
With this option, you can use the original product dimensions for legal entity A and new product dimensions for legal entity B.
