What’s happening?
When merging record in Dynamics 365, all notes linked to the accounts have their "Modified By" field updated to reflect the user who performed the merge. This behavior causes confusion in the timeline, as it incorrectly suggests that the merging user modified the notes, obscuring the identity of the original note creator.
Reason:
This behavior is by design. When records are merged, the "Modified By" field of the related notes are updated to reflect the user who performed the merge operation. However, the original creator of the note remains unchanged in the "Created By" field.
Resolution:
It is not possible to revert the "Modified By" field to its previous state after merging the records. However, users can configure the timeline control in Power Apps to display the "Created By" field instead of the "Modified By" field, for notes.
