What’s happening?
Customers are seeking assistance with obtaining database backups or restoring databases in various environments, including production and development. Specific inquiries include how to reduce database size for export and the availability of backup logs or reports.

Reason:

  • The database movement operations can manage a full database but not individual tables. There are limitations in tracking production database backups, and certain reports may not be available for sharing.
  • The size of the database can impact restoration processes, especially when space is limited in the target environment.

Resolution:

  1. Obtaining Database Backups:
  2. Use the Lifecycle Services (LCS) to perform database movement operations. This includes using the "Refresh database" option to copy the production database to a sandbox environment.
  3. Enable just-in-time database access to connect to the sandbox database and extract the required data.
  4. Reducing Database Size for Export:
  5. Follow the guidelines provided in the documentation for exporting a database, which includes cleanup routines to reduce the database size.
  6. Refer to the following resources for detailed steps:
  7. Backup Logs and Reports:
  8. Currently, the production backup log/SOC report is not available for sharing. Discussions are ongoing with senior management regarding the availability of these reports in the future.
  9. Restoration Issues:
  10. If restoration fails due to space issues, consider truncating large tables or applying cleanup routines to reduce the database size before attempting the restoration again.
  11. General Advice:
  12. Schedule database operations during off-peak hours to minimize impact on users and ensure successful completion of long-running operations.
