Applies to Product – Dynamics 365 Lifecycle Services
What’s happening?
Customers are requesting information about the Operating System Name & Version and Database Name & Version for their Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations environment, often for audit purposes.
Reason:
Due to the Software as a Service (SaaS) nature of Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, specific details regarding the underlying infrastructure, including the Operating System and Database versions, are not disclosed for security and operational reasons.
Resolution:
- Inform the customer that the specific details regarding the Operating System Name & Version and Database Name & Version cannot be provided due to the confidentiality of Microsoft's infrastructure.
- Explain that Microsoft manages the infrastructure, application platform, and system configurations, which includes security, operating systems, virtualization, servers, storage, networking, and application monitoring.
- Advise the customer that they can access the service through a browser, service endpoints, or Lifecycle Services (LCS), but do not have direct access to the underlying system details.
- Provide a link to the document that describes the system in detail, which may assist the customer in their audit: Service description for finance and operations apps - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn.
- Apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and offer further assistance if needed.
