What’s happening?
Customers are requesting information regarding data backup details, including type, frequency, and storage for Dynamics 365 environments.

Reason:
This arises from a lack of clarity on the data backup processes and policies for Dynamics 365 environments, particularly regarding automated backups and their retention periods.

Resolution:
For Dynamics 365, the data backup details are as follows: 1. Type: Automated backups are taken by Azure SQL for Microsoft-managed or self-service Tiers 2-5 environments. For Tier 1 or customer-managed environments, backups need to be taken manually. 2. Frequency: Automated backups are taken every few minutes and can be restored up to 14 days in the past for non-production environments and up to 28 days for production environments. 3. Storage: Backups are stored in Azure SQL and can be restored using Lifecycle Services point-in-time restore capability. Geo-redundant copies of Azure blob storage are also maintained in other Azure regions for disaster recovery purposes.
For further reference, customers can consult the documentation on backup and restore environments available on the Microsoft Learn platform.
