What’s happening?
Customers are unable to retrieve shared assets from the LCS asset library while attempting to deploy Power BI reports. The error message displayed is: "Cannot retrieve shared assets from LCS asset library. Project id {PHONEPII} User {ALPHANUMERICPII} Please contact your administrator."

Reason:
The underlying cause of this appears to be a failure to generate a user token for Dynamics Lifecycle Services on behalf of the specified user. This may be related to permissions or configuration settings within the LCS environment.

Resolution:

  1. Ensure that the user attempting to deploy the reports is using the same account (from the same AAD Tenant) for logging into both the Dynamics 365 environment and the LCS system.
  2. Navigate to LCS > Project > Project users.
  3. Verify that the logged-in user has Project Owner permission for the Project security role and that the status is shown as Accepted. If not, follow up with a Project Owner to assign the necessary role.
  4. Go to Dynamics 365 > System Parameters > Help.
  5. Provide authorization to LCS if it has not been done previously, and select the LCS project that contains the Power BI reports from the dropdown menu, then save the changes.
  6. If the integration is successful, the logged-in user who completed the LCS authorization can now deploy the reports using the "System Administration > Setup > Deploy PowerBI files" option into the Power BI tenant.
If the issue persists after following these steps, further investigation may be required to determine if there are additional underlying issues affecting the LCS integration.
