What’s happening?
The product lifecycle state for new engineering products is not being copied from the expected default lifecycle state as defined in the product release policies. Instead, it appears to be defaulting to the lifecycle state of the template released product.
Reason:
This arises because the lifecycle state of a new engineering product can be influenced by the template released product associated with the release policy. If the template has a specific lifecycle state set, it will be applied to the new product by default, which may conflict with the intended lifecycle state specified in the product lifecycle settings.
Resolution:
- Template Released Product Settings: Verify that the template released product in the release policy does not have a conflicting lifecycle state set.
- Default Lifecycle Configuration: Check that the “Default when released to legal entity” checkbox is correctly configured for the desired lifecycle state. This setting should apply to standard products, but for engineering products, the lifecycle state is often tied to the engineering change category.
- Engineering Change Category Settings: Review the engineering change category settings, as the lifecycle state of an engineering product version after it’s created in the engineering company is specified there.
- If the above settings are correctly configured and the issue persists, consider manually updating the lifecycle state through the Released products list page or the Details view.
- If the problem continues, it may be necessary to consult detailed documentation or reach out for further assistance.
