What’s happening?
Can a free Outlook account be used as an email account to send Business Central (BC) notifications?
Reason:
The free Outlook account does not have an Exchange License, which is required for it to function as a mailbox or current user mail. Additionally, the email account must be part of the subscription and have "Send as" permission to set up SMTP email. Attempts to add external users for this purpose have shown limitations, even when an Office E5 license is provided.
Resolution:
- It has been confirmed that a personal account cannot be used as an email account to send emails from BC.
- The email account must be a user or external user within the same tenant that has an Office E5 license to set up SMTP email.
- If the free account is a trial account (for example, for 30 days), it may be possible to set it as an email account in BC.
- For further troubleshooting, verify the email status in the Email Outbox page and check for any error messages. If issues persist, collect error details and provide them to support for assistance.
