What’s happening?
Customers are unable to restore an environment from backup due to the error message "No valid target environment can be selected." This may arise when attempting to restore a production environment to a sandbox or developer environment.
Reason:
The inability to select a valid target environment for restoration can occur due to several factors:
- The source and target environments must be in the same region.
- The source environment can be a production, sandbox, or developer environment, while the target environment can only be a sandbox or developer environment.
- If the source environment is a Managed Environment, the target must also be a Managed Environment.
- If a customer-managed encryption key (CMK) is applied to the source environment, the target environment must also have the same CMK applied.
- Both source and target environments must have Dataverse enabled.
Resolution:
To resolve this is not being able to select a valid target environment for restoration, follow these steps:
1. Ensure that both the source and target environments are in the same region.
2. Verify that the source environment is either a production, sandbox, or developer environment and that the target environment is a sandbox or developer environment.
3. Check if both environments are Managed Environments. If one is managed and the other is not, restoration will not be possible.
4. Confirm whether a customer-managed encryption key is applied to the source environment. If so, ensure that the target environment also has the same key applied.
5. Ensure that both the source and target environments have Dataverse enabled.
