What’s happening?
Customers are experiencing issues with batch jobs in Dynamics 365 that become stuck in a "Canceling" status, preventing further processing.

Reason:
The underlying cause of this is identified as transient, often related to long-running queries that affect the batch job's ability to complete its cancellation process.

Resolution:

  • The customer should attempt to restart the AOS (Application Object Server) to resolve this.
  • If the batch job remains stuck, the customer is advised to use  Enhanced abort feature to cancel the batch tasks using the appropriate methods as outlined in the Microsoft documentation: "Cancel a running batch job - Finance & Operations | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn."
  • If the issue persists after attempting the above steps, a ticket should be raised with the Project Group (PG) team for further investigation and a Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • In case of stuck in cancelling, it can be related to a batch task taking longer time to run than expected (investigated by job owners) if its single Job Issue or same class for multiple batch jobs.
  • The PG team may provide updates and necessary actions to resolve the issue, including draining & restarting the batch servers if required.
