What’s happening?
Customers are experiencing issues with editing flows in Power Automate Desktop, receiving error messages indicating that the flow cannot be opened due to version mismatches. Additionally, customers are unable to update flows to run as a specific plan despite having the necessary licenses assigned.
Reason:
- This arises from version inconsistencies across different machines. Even if Power Automate Desktop appears to be the latest version, different machines may have slightly different build numbers due to regional rollout delays or caching issues.
- Power Automate does not auto-update across all machines simultaneously, leading to version mismatches when editing flows.
- The process license can only be assigned to one cloud flow, and if the "Pay as you go" option is enabled, it may prevent the assignment of process licenses to cloud flows.
- Standardize Power Automate Desktop Version Across All Machines:
- Ensure all machines use the exact same version of Power Automate Desktop.
- Check the version on all machines by opening Power Automate Desktop, clicking on Settings, and then About. Compare the version numbers on all devices.
- If one machine has a different version, manually update it by downloading the latest version from the Power Automate Installer and installing it on every machine.
- Disable Automatic Updates (Optional):
- To prevent mismatches caused by staggered updates, disable automatic updates in Power Automate Desktop.
- Open Power Automate Desktop, go to Settings, then Preferences, and turn off automatic updates. Manually update all machines at the same time when a new version is available.
- Verify Cloud vs. On-Premises Version Compatibility:
- Ensure that the Power Automate Desktop version matches the cloud service version, as Microsoft may roll out cloud-side changes first.
- For License Assignment Issues:
- If the process license is not being assigned correctly, confirm that the flow is in a solution flow, as this is a requirement for using the process license.
- If the customer is unable to assign a per-flow license, check the capacity settings in the Power Platform admin center to ensure that the necessary licenses are allocated to the environment.
