What’s happening?
Customers are experiencing challenges with configuring authentication for Power Pages, specifically regarding the use of Authenticator and phone numbers for multi-factor authentication (MFA).

Reason:
The standard local authentication option has been deprecated, leading to the need for a new identity provider (IdP) or authentication mechanism that operates independently of the customer's tenant. This situation arises particularly when providing services to external users who are not part of the customer's tenant.

Resolution:

  • To configure authentication for Power Pages using Authenticator or phone number, consider using Microsoft Entra ID as the IdP.
  • Ensure that the authentication setup allows for multi-tenant configurations, enabling users from different tenants to authenticate without needing to invite them as guests.+
  • Determine whether to enforce MFA for all users or allow users the option to use MFA. This decision will impact the configuration of the authentication flow.
  • If there are specific concerns regarding the use of guest accounts and their access to Teams or other services, implement appropriate restrictions to prevent unintended access to resources outside of Power Pages.
