What’s happening?
Customers are experiencing difficulties in customizing account access types in Power Pages to utilize a custom lookup field instead of the default parentcustomerid field on the Contact entity.

Reason:
The underlying cause is identified as the out-of-the-box (OOB) behavior of the system, which fetches data from the account field in the backend from the Common Data Service (CDS), and this behavior cannot be customized.

Resolution:
To customize account access types in Power Pages, follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to Power Pages and open your Power Pages site for editing.
  2. In the left side panel, select "More items" and then select the relevant entity.
  3. Navigate to "Website Access Permissions" in the left side panel of the entity app, scroll down to Security, and select "Website Access Permissions."
  4. Create a new permission by selecting "New."
  5. On the General tab, enter or select the Name, the Website to associate with the permissions, and the permissions to apply.
  6. In the Web Roles tab, select "Existing Web Role" and add the web role(s) you want to associate with the permission.
  7. Adjust the permissions to use the custom lookup field instead of the parentcustomerid.
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, further investigation may be required as the customization may not be supported due to the OOB behavior of the system.
