What’s happening?
Customers are unable to change the custom URL on the Power Pages portal. They encounter errors when attempting to add a new hostname or CNAME record, which prevents access to the portal.

Reason:
Thia arises due to conflicts when trying to add a CNAME record that points to the portal. Additionally, there may be problems with the existing SSL certificate or hostname configurations that do not meet the requirements for adding a new custom domain.

Resolution:

  • Verify if the SSL certificate meets all the requirements as outlined in the documentation.
  • Attempt to delete the current assigned hostname and SSL certificate, and then try to add the new hostname again.
  • Check with the domain provider to ensure that the hostname can be added without conflicts.
  • If the error persists, consider using a different CNAME since the current one may already be in use for another portal.
  • Follow the documentation provided for adding a custom domain: Microsoft Learn - Add a custom domain.
  • If issues continue, gather screenshots of the error messages and the steps taken, and escalate the case for further investigation.
