What’s happening?
The customer encounters an error message stating, "There was a problem communicating with the server," when attempting to run Report Designer.

Reason:
The underlying cause of this may be related to the Financial reporting database being in soft-disabled mode, or it could be due to insufficient user permissions to connect to the Financial reporting server.

Resolution:

  1. Check if the Financial reporting database is in soft-disabled mode by accessing the Financial Reporting settings via the table browser. If it is in this mode, the SettingKey “DisableMaps” will have a SettingValue of 1.
  2. Verify if all users are affected by this issue. If the issue occurs only with specific users, check their permissions.
  3. If a user encounters the error "Unable to connect to the Financial reporting server," select "Yes" to continue and specify a different server address, then select "Test Connection." If the user does not have permission, a message will indicate that the connection attempt failed due to insufficient permissions.
  4. Ensure that the required permissions are granted as listed in the documentation for granting security access to Financial reporting. Users will not have access unless these privileges or another security role that includes these privileges are assigned.
