What’s happening?
Customers are encountering issues related to fixed asset depreciation, including prompts to open closed periods when attempting to post depreciation journals.

Reason:
The system may prompt users to open a month that has already been closed due to multiple lines with dates of register proposed on closed periods.

Resolution:
For initial posting of depreciation:

  1. Ensure that all fixed assets, books, and respective posting profiles are correctly loaded before proceeding with the depreciation journal. Here more information on how to create fixed assets: Create a fixed asset - Finance | Dynamics 365 | Microsoft Learn
  2. If the system prompts to open a closed month, verify if there are any pending depreciation transactions for that month. If so, address those transactions before proceeding:
    1. If the period is On-Hold status, you can change the status temporarily to Open from General Ledger> Setup> Ledger> Ledger calendar option. Select the legal entity and click on Update period status to select Open.
    2. If the period is permanently closed, the period cannot be open. To post the depreciation, it will be needed to change the posting date of fixed asset journal line and ensure it is posted in a open period.
  3. If encountering the error message regarding multiple depreciation transactions, enable the 'Allow multiple depreciations in same period' option from Fixed Asset parameters.
