What’s happening?
Customers are seeking assistance in generating reports for user-wise sign-in data related to canvas applications.

Reason:
The issue arises when application insights are not enabled, leading to difficulties in retrieving sign-in logs for users who have previously signed into the canvas application.

Resolution:

  • To analyze system-generated logs, connect the canvas apps to Application Insights, which is a feature of Azure.
  • Create an Application Insights resource and ensure that the tenant admin has enabled app insights in the Power Platform admin center.
  • Once set up, run queries to analyze the data sent from the app, including user sign-in logs.
  • For further details on how to set this up, refer to the documentation on analyzing system-generated logs using Application Insights.
  • If tenant-level analytics are needed, Power Platform admins can extract key service metrics based on user adoption across the environments they manage. The following tenant-level reports are available for Power Apps:
  • Usage reports: Provides insights into tenant and environment usage and inventory of all apps and connectors.
  • Maker activity report: Provides insights regarding maker activity.
  • Inventory report: Allows viewing of the complete catalog of apps distributed across the tenant.
  • Note that the service only starts collecting data visualized in the reports when the feature is enabled, and it can take between 12 and 36 hours to reflect service activities from the previous day.
