Simplifying Service Pricing with Service Price Groups in Business Central As businesses grow, so does the complexity of managing various service items and their respective pricing. If your organization provides a myriad of services, it's essential to streamline your pricing strategies to maintain consistency, save time, and reduce errors. Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central helps simplify this task with a feature called 'Service Price Groups'.

What are Service Price Groups?

Service Price Groups in Business Central are clusters of service items that are assigned special pricing which deviates from the standard. This pricing can be applied to individual service items or groups of service items, allowing for a uniform pricing strategy across similar services.

How to Set Up Service Price Groups

Step 1: Access the Feature

Navigate to the 'Service Price Groups' by clicking on the Lightbulb icon to open the Tell Me feature, then enter "Service Price Groups" in the search field, and select the related link.

Step 2: Create a Service Price Group

Select 'New' to create a new group. You’ll need to enter a unique identifier in the 'Code' field and provide a brief description in the 'Description' field to help you identify the purpose of this price group.

Step 3: Define the Details

Click on the 'Setup' action. Here, you'll specify the pricing details for this group. You'll find several fields that need to be configured:
  • Adjustment Type: Determine whether the price adjustment is a fixed amount or percentage, or if it's conditional based on the total service price.
  • Amount: Set the value that corresponds with the adjustment type. For example, if the adjustment type is 'Minimum', this amount is the minimum service price for the group.

Practical Example:

Imagine you run a tech support company with services ranging from software installation to hardware repairs. For clients subscribing to your premium support package, you wish to offer a 15% discount on hardware repairs.
Here’s how you’d set it up:
  1. You create a service price group called "HWRepairPremium" with a description indicating it’s for hardware repairs for premium members.
  2. You select 'Discount %' as the Adjustment Type.
  3. You enter '15' in the Amount field, signaling a 15% discount.
