Onedrive integration in Business Central

With business central you can use OneDrive to save documents from Business Central; in practice it is possible to use your own personal Onedrive drive (if you already have one activated) or create it on the fly by passing through Sharepoint online. The use of Onedrive integrated in BC can be done in two ways:

  • Classic (folder on disk)
  • Modern (via .ASPX OneDrive page integrated in Sharepoint Online)

In any case a Sharepoint Online instance is created \ activated if it does not exist

What can I do?

in practice the attachments inserted in BC are copied to Onedrive, from there it is possible to open them directly and modify them; For example, it is no longer necessary to use a PDF viewer to open a document in BC because Sharepoint allows you to open any document.

Very interesting feature also for the demos because it gives the idea of a complete integration with Sharepoint and Onedrive as well as with Teams.

TESTING

Select you “Cloud Storage” path from MySettings

Example: From Quote insert a new attached document

After this, click on “Open in OneDrive”

The selected document will first be uploaded to Onedrive (copied via automatic uploads) and then opened

Example “Happy New Year 2020 from Colosseum – Rome!” opened in Onedrive

Shared folders

It is also possible to use shared folders giving access only to tenant members (Business Central users)

Inside OneDrive you will find folders with documents structured for

  • BC \ Company instance

Example: “Business Central \ Demo Company \ Documents” and you can add what you want

Example: BC Files shared folder
