Dynamix Tip: Cannot delete Not yet Acquired Fixed Asset

Hello there D.M.-azing D365 Community!

As part of the data migration activity for Fixed assets or even the day-to-day business process of manually creating a Fixed asset, it is mandatory that we select a Fixed asset group.

There can be situations wherein we accidentally assigned an incorrect Fixed asset group for the Fixed asset/s that we are creating.
And when we try to delete the Fixed asset that has no posted records or journals yet in the D365 Finance and Operations is not allowing us to delete the record due to this error message.

The FixedAsset ‘XXX’ is used in one or more transactions of the following types: Ledger and cannot be deleted.

A financial dimension value is based on the XXX record and has been used on a transaction. You cannot delete the XXX record

The two common reasons, I could think of why the system keeps on saying that it has been used already for transactions are because:
1. There is pending or unposted journal having the Fixed asset ID.
2. The Fixed asset ID has been used in an unposted journal but the journal line with the FA ID has been deleted.

How to fix that scenario? Please watch this video for the solution.

That’s it for now. I hope that you find this article as a helpful tool for you to better appreciate and understand, everything and anything, about Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

It will truly be a privilege if you will allow me to know your thoughts and suggestions for me to further improve the coming featured articles on our blog. ‘Til next time!
