How to open the workflow editor with the new Microsoft Edge browser
Several weeks back, I posted about two new features which are useful for Microsoft Dynamics 365 within the new Microsoft Edge browser. Personally, I switched to this browser as my favourite. When you want to use the workflow editor, you currently have to install a browser extension. This post will show you how to get and use this extension.
ClickOnce applications
Microsoft has currently some features of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Finance, SCM and Retail which are deployed as ClickOnce applications. These are console applications or solutions which are downloaded when the user needs it. You can learn more about the ClickOnce technology on the next documentation page: ClickOnce security and deployment.
One of the features is the workflow editor which will be downloaded each time when you want to edit the workflow configuration or create new configurations.
New Edge browser
Microsoft is still working on the new Chromium based Edge browser. The final version is expected to be general available on January 15, 2020. Like Google Chrome, ClickOnce applications needs an extension in the new Edge browser. You can read about this on the System requirements documentation page. Without the extension, you are not able to launch the workflow editor correctly.
I’m not sure if Microsoft will release an embedded solution in the final Edge version. Another nice question is if the Microsoft Dynamics product team will continue having the workflow editor and other components like the report editor as ClickOnce applications. The future will tell…
In the Microsoft Store, there is currently no ClickOnce extension available. You will need to get it from the Chrome Store. The video below will show you how to allow extensions from other sources and get the extension installed.
