GPUG Webinar: Self-Service Reporting using Excel Pivot Tables and Slicers (Aug 2014)

In our ERP systems we have huge amounts of data, but users need information in order to monitor progress and make decisions. Pivot Tables in Excel provide an excellent and flexible way to produce aggregate summaries of data to enable staff to see the overall picture more easily from different perspectives. When a particular value seems unusual or outside the normal trends they can drill down into more detail where necessary to investigate. The addition of Slicers in Excel 2010 enables users to filter more than one Pivot Table at once in a very visual way to see the information most relevant to them. Creating dashboard-like displays of Pivot Tables and charts allows every user to work with them to ask and answer their business questions in a more agile manner than having to ask the “reporting expert” to do this for them.

In this webinar we will quickly revise some of the basic principles of Pivot Tables, then take a look at how you can use one or more Slicers with multiple Pivot Tables and formatting these Slicers to make it as intuitive as possible for users to take advantage of them.
