Service Tier Reporting options in Dynamics NAV

Steven Renders Profile Picture Steven Renders 5,698 Moderator

Recently I noticed a new Reporting tab in the Service Tier options, in Dynamics NAV:

It has the following options:

  • Enable Save as Excel on Request Pages of RDLC-layout Reports
Specifies whether users can open or save a report that is based on an RDLC layout as Microsoft Excel document from the report request page. If you clear this check box, the Excel option is removed from the Print menu on the request page.
  • Enable Save as Word on Request Pages of RDLC-layout Reports
Specifies whether users can open or save a report that is based on an RDLC layout as Microsoft Word document from the report request page. If you clear this check box, the Word option is removed from the Print menu on the request page.
  • Enable Save from Report Preview
Specifies whether users can save a report as a PDF, Microsoft Word, or Microsoft Excel document from the report preview window. If you clear this check box, the Save As icon is removed from the report preview window.
  • Report PDF Font Embedding
Specifies whether fonts are embedded in PDF files that are generated for reports. The setting applies to reports that are run server-side and client-side.

And it does what is says.

Apparently this was introduced in NAV 2016 CU 9.

When you run a report, the request page by default has these options:

and in preview mode you see the following toolbar:

After you disable the properties in the Service Tier, restart it and run the report again you see the following:

This can be an interesting setting to play with, so I thought it was worth to mention it.
