December GP ERP Insights – 2021 year in review and looking ahead at Dynamics GP in 2022

2021 was a busy year for many of our Dynamics GP (Great Plains) clients who focused their 2021 efforts on upgrading to Dynamics GP 18.3 (GP 2021) and complementing their Dynamics GP systems with additional add-on tools such as AP Automation, AR Automation, Expense Management, FP&A scenario planning tools, GP private cloud hosting, and Collections Management.

Fall 2021 - On time, as planned, the release of Dynamics GP 18.4 (GP 2022), the latest update to Dynamics GP (Great Plains).  According to the new modern lifecycle, Microsoft is now recommending an annual upgrade (1-2 years) to remain current and take advantage of the latest in functions including security and compatibility.

Winter 2022 - Looking ahead to 2022, we foresee a long and prosperous future for Dynamics GP.

For those who have not upgraded in the past year, we anticipate a potential compatibility issue for clients running Dynamics 18.2 and older (GP 2010 to GP 18.2) and the ability for Dynamics GP emails to be sent via Exchange Online. If you use an alternate email system then you may not be affected.  Currently, we are told 'early 2022' for Microsoft to begin enforcing a security change in Microsoft Office 365 cloud applications.

Impacted Dynamics GP emails include system-generated emails for workflow notices, as well as sending invoices and other documents directly from Dynamics GP.  The recommended resolution is to upgrade to Dynamics GP 18.3 or GP 18.4 which each include compatibility updates for the TLS 1.2 security standard.
