Lifecycle Services: Switch between D365FO mode and AX2012 mode
"I want to create a Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations project in LCS, but I only see AX2012 in the Product name dropdown menu. How can I create D365FO projects?"
This is a common question in the Dynamics Community forums. In fact there are two different modes in Lifecycle Services, one for D365FO and another for AX2012. And the mode depends on the identity that you use to login to LCS.
- D365FO mode is available, if you login to LCS using an O365 account ("Work / school account") that belongs to an Office 365 tenant where D365FO licenses exist. These can be customer / partner trial licenses or actual licenses that were purchased from Microsoft.
- AX2012 mode is available, if you login to LCS using a Microsoft account ("Private account") or an O365 account that is linked to a Microsoft partner in Partner Source.
- ("NAV mode" - if your account doesn't have any of the mentioned associations, you will see only Microsoft Dynamics NAV in the dropdown list.)
If your O365 has both associations, meaning it's linked to your organization in Partner Source, and your organization's O365 has Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations licenses, you can switch between the two modes like this:
1) Click your name in the top right corner of LCS
2) You will see two Partner organizations (they can have the same name) - one comes from the Partner Source link and one comes from the O365 tenant.
3) If you switch the Current organization, your LCS mode will change to reflect that partner organization association.

Yes, you can deploy a trial instance from https://trials.dynamics.com Additionally, ustomers and partners might be eligible for Customer / Partner trial. I have written a blog post about it: community.dynamics.com/.../trial-options-for-dynamics-365-for-finance-and-operations

Is their any way to have a working instance of dynamics 365 Finance working with the standard sample data without deploying an environment using LCS? For example is their a URL a person can use to access the standard sample data. The problem I am facing is that my account is not linked to a tenant that has a 365 Finance license.
