Friday Funny: Winter themed algebra maths puzzle

I think last week’s puzzle was too simple for you, so here is something with more of a challenge.

I know that the Christmas theme is a little late (but it is summer Down Under anyway).

I will be very impressed if you can work out the solution to this one.

Please comment on how you went, but don’t give away the answer…. at least not straight away.
