Dynamix Tip: Revert to Open a Permanently close period status

Hello there D.M.-azing D365 Community!

I am not sure if you have already tried this one, but I would love to share this resolution to reopen a Period Status that was set as Permanently closed.

By standard, before we can change the Period status to Permanently closed a dialogue box will appear that once the period has been Permanently closed it cannot be reopened.

But here’s a quick fix on how we can reopen it.

1.Navigate General ledger > Ledger setup > Ledger.

2.Click Edit. Change the currently selected Fiscal calendar into a new Fiscal Calendar then click Save.

3.Refresh the browser.

4.Go back to General ledger > Ledger setup > Ledger. And revert back the Fiscal Calendar to its original setup. Once you navigate General ledger > Ledger setup > Ledger calendars this should revert back the period status for that legal entity to Open.

Note: I have not explored much if this fix is applicable at all events when a Period Status was Permanently Closed but the good thing is we have an option available before we report this issue to Microsoft whenever in the rarest case, we encounter this scenario. Also, if what I remember is correct if there are still open transactions for the period then D365 FO itself will not allow Permanently closed period even after the user clicked Yes button.

That’s it for now. I hope that you find this article as a helpful tool for you to better appreciate and understand, everything and anything, about Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations.

It will truly be a privilege if you will allow me to know your thoughts and suggestions for me to further improve the coming featured articles on our blog. ‘Til next time!
