Welcome to the Dynamics AX HCM Blog!

Hello and WELCOME to our Dynamics AX HCM blog!

The purpose of the Dynamics AX HCM blog is for us (the Dynamics AX HCM program management team) to provide you with information that you are interested in regarding HCM.  These topics can range from more information regarding certain features in Dynamics (Who HASN’T had a question on compensation at one point or another?) or updates on time sensitive releases (Year-end payroll/tax updates).  Also, from time to time, we will be soliciting feedback from you as well regarding potential new features or usability studies for products currently being developed.  Our goal is to provide you with the information you need to take advantage of all the functionality provided by Dynamics AX, and to establish a rapport with our customers to deliver high quality features.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Dynamics AX HCM program management team, our role is to plan and design the features for future releases of Dynamics AX HCM.  We write the business requirements/scenarios that are needed by our customers, and then work closely with our engineering team during the development process.   You can expect to see blog posts from our entire team:  Darin, Brandon, Kasey, Shar, Jerilyn and Shiela (that would be me).  :)

Your first question might be, what is HCM?  HCM is the acronym for Human Capital Management.  It encompasses the areas formerly known as HR and Payroll.   However, Dynamics AX HCM is far more than that!  Dynamics HCM covers the following areas:

  •          Recruitment
  •          Employee Development/Training
  •          Performance Management
  •          Compensation/Benefit Management
  •          Organizational and Workforce Management
  •          Absence Management
  •          Employee and Manager Self Service
  •          Roles Centers
  •          US Payroll

The functionality of HCM is further enhanced by workflow support, date effectiveness, and organizational hierarchy support. Furthermore, not only does AX HCM cover the areas listed above, it also integrates to the following modules:

  •          Project management and accounting
  •          Travel and expense
  •          Sales and marketing
  •          General ledger
  •          Accounts payable
  •          Budgeting (budget planning)
  •          Questionnaires
  •          Production control
  •          Inventory and warehouse management
  •          Global address book
  •          Microsoft SQL Server Report Services
  •          Microsoft Office

Over the next few months you can expect blog posts on the following topics:  Cumulative updates 6 & 7, tax updates, HCM in depth, important links, customer feedback, compensation overview, performance management overview and Convergence sessions.  Are there other topics that you would like to see covered in future blogs?  Please comment!

Until next time….

Shiela

JHilke Thanks for reaching out.  We do have a few other blog posts on this blog that do highlight some of the high-level functionality as well as links to additional material.

This is a link to a post we did that covered the high-level functionality:

This is a link to a post we did that gives you an index of the training and educational material available:

Below are links to additional marketing materials and sites for HCM:

I hope that these links are able to help answer your questions.

Our company is new to AX 2012 and I am looking for an informational overview of the HCM functionality of the system. Are there material / videos available that I could share with my HR team?

A couple of questions:  1) tax updates, is there a RSS that we can have that alerts us when a new update is available, we currently installed 2015-R2 so  I am guessing we are up to date, but would rather get an email than having to go out to the tax site every month

    2) we have a tax code that is not loaded for a local Aurora/Denver ER tax, can you point us to a tax expert that could answer a question

I'm trying to locate content that compares the relative strength of AX HCM as compared to best-of-breed HCM solutions such as SuccesssFactors, Workday, etc.  We will be conducting an HRIS selection soon. I'm not so interested in the benefits of AX HCM integrating with AX financials, etc. but rather the depth and completeness of HCM functionality as compared to others.  Can anyone suggest any good online resources? Does Microsoft publish any feature-by-feature comparisons with competitive solutions?

    Hi Soma,

We did some testing on the issue that you described regarding the applicant being a previous employee.  We have written this up as a bug, and will get it on our list for our next release.  In this instance you will need to either reject or cancel the application to close out the recruitment project, and then directly re-hire the past worker.  I understand that this is not ideal, and we have documented the issue.  Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Regards,

    Shiela

Hi Sheila, who in your team is the Recruiting Mgmt specialist. I have a specific situation and require help. Here's it.

I have a situation where one of the applicants is a previous employee. So at the end of recruiting cycle I am trying to change the Application Status Modify by clicking on "Hire New Worker" in order to convert the applicant to an employee. The “Application Status Modify functionality works fine when I hire a brand new applicant. But when I try to hire(or should I say Rehire) this previous employee by the same method, the "Hire New Worker" button is disabled. Also the last option in Application Status Modify which is "Transfer Worker" is permanently disabled. FYI, when I directly rehire a past worker it is working fine.

If you need screenshots or something I can share. I posted this in the forum but with no response. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks !
