Fail to rename the AxDB Database

Hi everyone,

The other day a friend had a problem when trying to rename the AxDB database on a dev box. Renaming the DB is part of the data upgrade process when you are upgrading from AX2012 to D365FO (click here to learn more about it).

The thing is that several services on windows use the AxDB, so you need to make sure that all necessary services are stopped before trying to renaming the DB.

In case anyone experience the same problem, these are the services you need to check:

  • Management Reporter
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations – Batch Management service
  • Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Operations – Data import/Export Framework service
  • World Wide Web Publishing Service
