If You Don’t Like The Way Your Data Looks The Rename It

If you are as OCD about tidy data as I am, then you probably hate data that does not quite match up with everything else in the database. Maybe it’s because you made a mistake in adding some data, or maybe you just want the data to look a little cleaner, we don’t judge. Luckily you don’t have to live with odd data within Dynamics AX, you can rename the records at any time and all of the related records will be renamed as well.

If it’s good enough for Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner then it’s good enough for your data.

How To Do It…

Start off by opening up the record that you want to rename.

Then right-mouse-click on the form and select the Record Info menu item

When the Record Information dialog box is displayed, click on the Rename button.

Then the Rename dialog box is displayed, just type in the new record key that you want to use and then click on the OK button.

If you are sure that you want to rename the record then click Yes when the dialog box is displayed.

How It Works…

Now when you return to the record you will notice that the record index has been changed.

Also, all of the associated records have been changed as well.

How cool is that.
