Upgrading from Dynamics AX to Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations – Is it Worth It?

If you're thinking about upgrading from AX to Finance and Operations, or if you're wondering if you should upgrade at all, you're not alone. Upgrading has a large impact on your organization and now is a great time to learn about and start planning your upgrade. The majority of  businesses that have transitioned to Finance and Operations are already reaping the benefits from their upgrade.

The Microsoft Cloud offers security monitoring and threat management from Microsoft - leaving your IT team available to take on other tasks. Additionally, the cloud is a scalable solution, so no matter where your company is going in the future, you'll always have a solution that fits your needs and size.

The pricing model for Dynamics 365 essentially shifts business costs away from infrastructure and IT and reallocates those costs to licensing fees. A cloud model provides more visibility into the hard costs or operating expenses of your solution and a more predictable cost over time. Companies will see much less of a time commitment and investment into maintenance and infrastructure.

The support lifecycle for Dynamics 365 is ongoing, with consistent upgrades and updates that no longer require large time and financial investments. Support for Dynamics AX 2012 R2 and AX 2012 RTM is in the extended phase and will be expired in 2021. AX 2012 R3 clients are still on mainstream support but will entered extended support in 2021 and will lose support in 2023. All other versions of AX are no longer supported by the Microsoft support team.

Dynamics 365 users have access to the system anywhere, any time, on any device thanks to mobile capabilities. The modern user experience and platform offers an intuitive look and feel that is similar to other Microsoft products. This reduces training time and gets users up and running quicker than ever.

Functionality and features are being added consistently, with additional apps available to meet specific needs.
