As one of the most frequently studied generations in history, Millenials have recently begun to saturate the workforce. And with the new generation all industries like private practice healthcare are seeing stark changes and new trends. Recently Physician’s Practice released the results of its Great America Physician Survey and revealed that less than half of the physicians under the age of 35 are happy they became physicians. That’s understandable considering recent years of student debt reaching huge numbers and the political turmoil surrounding the healthcare industry at large. But perhaps it’s simply because younger people tend to be more restless. Here are some more interesting statistics on medical practice management trends from the survey.
- 60 percent of physicians say healthcare reform and the economy are “extremely important” in their lives.
- 31 percent say they are considering or have considered going to a concierge-style practice model, which means patients pay an annual fee for premium care.
- 7 percent plan to transition to a hospital or merge with other practices
- 46 percent of physicians plan on continuing to practice medicine as they do now
- 72 percent of doctors ages 65 and older like being a physician compared to just 44 percent between 36 and 45 years and 47 percent of physicians age 35 and under.
- 68 percent said they don’t have as much time as they should for their personal lives
For many small practices, a lot of on-the-job headaches occur because of medical practice management software that does not deliver the tools and information necessary to streamline business operations. While many physicians complain that they work too many hours and they don’t have enough time in their personal lives, a solution like Microsoft Dynamics GP could potentially save countless hours spent on financials, patient relationships and just keeping a healthy bottom line. The right healthcare practice management software won’t just be helping you keep a healthy business; it will help you keep a happy lifestyle.
