Dynamics 365 Field Service – Initial Configuration

To start with the Dynamics 365 Field Service Automation there are several settings which need to be configured. In this blog article we will see how we can set up the basic settings and configurations for Dynamics 365 Field Service which are as follows.

  1. Field Service Settings: The Dynamics 365 Field Service settings will allow system admin users to setup and configure the default settings for the agreements, work orders, schedule board, etc. These default settings include the following (refer Fig. 1)
      1. Work Order Prefix
        1. Default Work Order Completed Status
        2. Resource Pay Type
          1. Work Pay Type
          2. Travel Pay Type
        3. Return Merchandise Order (RMA)
          1. RMA Prefix
          2. RMA Starting Number
        4. Return to Vendor (RTV)
          1. RTV Prefix
          2. RTV Starting Number
        5. Agreement Default Settings like
          1. Agreement Prefix
          2. Agreement Starting Number
          3. Auto Generate Work Order for Agreement Booking
        6. Purchase Default Settings
          1. Purchase Order Prefix
          2. Purchase Order Starting Number
          3. Purchase Order Approval Required
        7. Inventory Default Settings
          1. Inventory Transfer Prefix
          2. Inventory Transfer Starting Number
          3. Inventory Adjustment Prefix
          4. Inventory Adjustment Starting Number

  1. Price Lists: Price Lists define how you are billing your customer (refer Fig. 2).

  1. Work Order Types: Work order types define what kind of issues your customer can raised within your Dynamics 365 Field Service organization. Few examples of Work Order Types like Preventive Maintenance, Inspection, Install or Repair, etc. (refer Fig. 3).

  1. Incident Types: incident Types define the common issues that the customer can report to (refer Fig. 4).

  1. Service Task Types: Service Task Types define the steps by steps process to perform any task (refer Fig. 5).

  1. Priorities: Define the master of different type of Priorities (refer Fig. 6).

  1. Resource Category: Resource Category defines to categorize the resources like people one who visit the customer location to resolve the issue or resource like equipment’s (refer Fig. 7).

  1. Resource: To keep the actual resources and mention the working hours, etc. (refer Fig. 8).

  1. Characteristics: This will allow users to keep track of all the skills, knowledge, experience, etc. of the resource (refer Fig. 9).

  1. Territories: Territories are nothing but Region. Territories define in which region an organization is servicing or who will be the resource is available, etc. (refer Fig. 10).

  1. Tax Codes: Tax Codes define the tax rates which will used to calculate the taxes (refer Fig. 11).

Apart from the above settings or configuration there are few other configurations we must set up like Postal Codes, Payment Terms, etc.
