Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations – Global General Journal

Hello D.M.-azing D365 Community!

In this article, we will be unboxing a quite small feature in Microsoft Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations yet an incredible tool to make our journalizing process easier.

There are times where we will encounter clients who are operating globally or with multiple companies and their services are sometimes shared across organizations especially for accounting. And D365 F&O offered to us a feature where specific users are allowed to access and record journal entries across legal entities which is termed as Global general journal.

In order for us to use this feature, let’s navigate: General ledger > Journal entries > Global general journals.

Notice in the above the button for New journal which has an available drop-down that displays the fields for Company and Name. From the Company drop-down the user has to select the legal entity on where the journal entry will be recorded and select the journal name from the Name drop-down then click OK.

A new journal will be created and the user can now proceed in the usual steps in preparing the general journal by clicking Lines or thru Open lines in excel.

Now, at this point, you might be wondering how can this feature benefit the users if in the first place we can make use of the normal General journal that D365 F&O does have.

In using Global general journal, we are departing from the need to change the legal entity that the user is currently working on the system. This feature also allows the user to access the general journals from different available entities. And ultimately, the general journal approvers can post general journals across legal entities in a faster manner thus promoting efficiency.
