ERP Integration And It’s Impact on Data, Business Intelligence

Community Member Profile Picture Community Member

There are plenty of project managers and department managers to gather and share data about the different facets of your business.  Separately, each department may be functioning well and pulling in profits, but how do they impact overall corporate success?  Waiting for sales, inventory, labor, and financial reports and making sense of the data that you receive from disparate solutions can be challenging.  Integrating operational data with financial data can give you greater visibility throughout your enterprise, so you can streamline operations and drive growth.

In order to analyze the overall corporate health of your business you need to review operational data.  You may want to take a look at inventory figures, manufacturing or distribution information, labor productivity numbers, in addition to the standard accounting-related data.  Many CEOs rely on their departmental heads to provide this type of data at weekly meetings or, like many, you may have an email inbox full of various reports.  Getting these important reports is the first challenge, the next challenge is making sense of it all.

Trying to build correlations between inventory figures or labor productivity and profitability isn’t as simple as you may think.  Your managers have their own data and it doesn’t always directly correlate with another department’s figures.  If the data is in spreadsheets, there could be errors in the cells or with the math, further skewing the numbers.  Instead of stitching reports together, use an enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that does the work for you.

A solution like Microsoft Dynamics® GP is integrated, which means that your departmental data is already connected.  This solution includes management capabilities for financials, inventory, supply chain, human resources and payroll, and other core business operations.  Each department use the integrated ERP solution for data entry and reporting and you can then use the solution to manage departmental metrics, as well as overall corporate health.  An integrated solution makes it easier to analyze departmental activities, and how those activities affect corporate and strategic goals.  Built-in business intelligence and reporting features allow you to take a closer look at inventory or labor productivity metrics and develop milestones or goals to make improvements that drive profitability.

While you can use individual reports to determine the fiscal health of your business, an integrated ERP solution will make that process easier, quicker, and more accurate.  Contact MIBAR.net for more information about using ERP to make heads and tails of your operational data and using that data to drive growth.
