Standard inventory planning in Microsoft Dynamics NAV is based on investigation of the demand and supply situation of the item and calculation of the projected available balance. This basic balance (this is a flowchart with functionality of Microsoft Dynamics NAV 2013) is defined on picture below:

We use Requisition Worksheet batch job for this inventory planning.
