New extensibility support in the July 2017 Update

We recently released the (so far) latest and greatest version of Dynamics 365 for Finance and Operations. This is the first release after Announcing application extensibility plans – and our first opportunity to demonstrate our dedication to this important (albeit huge and challenging) endeavor.

The number of extension points we've added is too large to enumerate here, so instead I created a word cloud based on the titles for our work items.

If you are part of the extension journey, I'd strongly encourage you to look at this massive first wave of supporting application code changes. Several hundred common extension scenarios can now be accomplished without overlayering (and the associated cost).

A few highlights:

  • More than 750 enums have been made extensible, including refactoring logic using these enums to support extensions.
  • Refactoring of the *TableType and *LineType classes, so insert/update/delete events on the backing tables can be used as extension points.

We still have lots to do. This release marks another significant step of the journey.
