Feature of the Week for Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011: User Interface - Menu Search

Jeff Suwyn Profile Picture Jeff Suwyn

User Interface - Navigation

Menu Search

Why this feature is cool!

In Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011, you can quickly find screens or reports by simply typing in the name or portion of the name of a screen or report in the new search field.  Once you type a value  into the menu search field, the results are displayed.  Double clicking on any returned result opens the selected screen or report.  Getting to the screens that you need to do your job is now easier than ever!

Here are some examples:  A request comes in to run that “project budget” report that their boss really likes.  But they have no idea where that report is located?  Or is it a report that you only run once a year?  Now you can type in the name or partial name of the report and find it without having to navigate through the menu.

What does it look like?

The menu toolbar in Microsoft Dynamics SL 2011

The Menu Search box is located in the upper right hand corner of the screen

To find a screen or report, type in any part of its name in the search field.

The results pane shows any screen or report that contains the search value.

Double click on any value in the results pane to open the screen or report.
