Cool Features for Management Reporter 2012 and Dynamics GP 2013-2015

Management Reporter 2012 is well known for being a powerful Corporate Performance Management tool, but there are a few features that we find our clients really enjoy!

In case you are not familiar with Microsoft’s Management Reporter it is an interactive reporting application that financial and business professionals can use to create, maintain, deploy and view financial statements. It moves beyond traditional reporting constraints to help you design a variety of reports efficiently. Communication is streamlined with the use of interactive notes and instant messaging (requires Microsoft Lync 2010 SDK).

A few of the basic components of Management Report are:

  • Report Designer – used to create the filed layout – also has a Wizard
  • Desktop Viewer – Stores and organizes the reports in a library
  • Web Viewer – allows browsers to open and save reports
  • Report Scheduler – generates regular reports automatically
  • Reporter Database – Stores reports and runs on top of a SQL Server database
  • Application Service – the interface for accessing the database of reports
  • Process Service – actually generates the stored reports

Here is a quick look at a diagram of information as applied to Management Reporter 2012:

Information Flow

Here at Custom Information Services our expert Dynamics GP consultants help clients with Management Reporter and have found a few unique features that could easily be overlooked. They have found that Management Reporter 2012 improves user experience with improved report distribution.

Key Points:

  • Financial reports can be generated as html files containing links to report data. This allows users to access reports without first opening a separate application or following a complicated procedure.
  • As long as the user is authenticated on the domain, credentials do not have to be provided
  • The “commenting” feature exposes collaboration tools available to all authorized users
  • Cataloging and scheduling features provide automated report generation and distribution. This frees up accounting staff from repetitive tasks.
