Hidden Entry Points Node on Duplicated Security Roles – AX 2012

Community Member Profile Picture Community Member

Often when troubleshooting security, we utilize the Security Tools functionality found in Add-Ins from a menu item.

Hidden Entry Points Node 1

We recently ran into an issue where a user had full access within a form. When viewing Related Security Roles from the form menu item, none of the roles the user was a member of appeared in the report. Eventually, we uncovered a strange AX bug. If you duplicate a role in the AOT, you have access to an Entry Point node until the role is refreshed or you close AX. This node allows you to add menu items and modify the roles access. This change in the roles access is not reflected in any of the security inquiries or reports and since they become hidden it becomes impossible to know the roles true access.

Hidden Entry Points Node 2

We found this in the AX 2012 RDW version. It also has been verified that the hidden node appears in AX 2012 R3.
