Server Side Synchronization Supported and Unsupported Scenarios
Since version 2013, Microsoft Dynamic CRM has introduced new enhancement of Email Integration via introducing the Server-Side-Synch. This article shall talk about specification of Server-Side-Synch and Supported and Unsupported Scenarios.
Server Side Sync Specification
- Server-side synchronization will not only support email syncing but also appointments, contacts, and tasks with Exchange.
- External systems will support email synchronization only
- This functionality depends on and integrates with the CRM async service so there may be considerations for planning server deployment.
- Server-Side-Synch has eliminated the requirement of installing the email router application for email synchronization.
- Users with multiple devices will not be required to limit their synchronizing behavior to be limited to one laptop, desktop, or mobile device
Supported Scenarios
- We should remember that Server-side synchronization is recommended for CRM On-premise and Microsoft Exchange on-premise.
- Only support for: Exchange 2010 / 2013
| Deployment | Email System | Email Synch | ACT Synch | Protocal |
| CRM Onpremise | Exchange 2010
Exchange 2013 |
Yes | Yes | Exchange web service |
| CRM Onpremise | Gmail
MSN Yahoo Window Live Mail Hotmail/Outlook.com
|
Yes | No | POP3/SMTP |
Note: It is not recommended to mix Server-side sync and Outlook syncing for ACT synchronization as not all appointment attendees may synchronize.
Unsupported scenarios
Hybrid deployments of Microsoft Dynamics CRM and Microsoft Exchange are not supported for Server-side synchronization of following scenarios.
- CRM On-line and Exchange On-premises
- CRM On-premises and Exchange Online (Office 365)
- CRM On-line and Exchange Online (Office 365)
- Any hybrid of Exchange and POP3 or SMTP
- Does not support mass email campaigns
Not-Supported Servers: Exchange 2007 / 2003
Note: Exchange 2007 is still supported for the Email router and Outlook client synchronization implementations. The email router will be explored in detail later in this module.
Hope that it is useful for someone.
