Dynamics GP Manufacturing with MRP for Multilevel BOM’s

Dynamics GP has a powerful MRP process that efficiently surveys product demand, and suggests manufacturing orders and purchase orders to meet the demand. Among many other specific features, it effectively peers down into multilevel bills of materials to search out product requirements.

This is an example of a multilevel bill of materials that includes both regular subassemblies and phantom subassemblies:

There are a number of MRP screens you can use to review the results of an MRP regeneration. One of my favorites is the MRP Quantities Query screen. This screen shows planned and firm manufacturing orders. You can double click on the planned orders and easily turn them into open manufacturing orders:

The Purchase Request Resolution screen shows you which items need to be purchased to meet the demand, down to the embedded subassembly level:

The MRP process takes some time to set up. But once you’ve done that, it becomes a very powerful planning and management tool. It will help organize your purchasing and production functions and make them more efficient.
