Updates to Installers for all Winthrop Product

David Meego - Click for blog homepage Following on from yesterday’s article: Visual Studio Tools: Best Practice when adding References to Projects, I wanted to highlight that all of Winthrop Development Consultants product installers have been updated to help avoid the problems caused by duplicate old DLL files in the Addins folder.

This issue is most likely with Visual Studio Integration Toolkit where developers use the toolkit from their products by adding the reference to the Dictionary Assembly DLL file.

To minimize the chance of errors, the installers now look for and remove (if found) any duplicates of the Dictionary Assembly DLL files for each of the products.

This means that installing the update should not cause any addin related exceptions due to old versions of DLLs being in the wrong location. Also, downloading and installing the latest versions could fix an existing issue by removing the duplicate file.

The updates are for versions all supported versions, namely GP 2010 (v11.0), GP 2013 (v12.0), GP 2015 (v14.0), GP 2016 (v16.0) and GP 2018 (v18.0).

The portal pages have been updated to show the current Build, Last Modified Date and installer version numbers:

Please ensure that you always install the latest build. All products now have an automatic update check which will notify the administrator users in a system if there is an update available.

One final point, renaming the Addin DLL in the Addins folder for Winthrop products will prevent the registration from working. Some sites renamed the DLL listed in the exception in the Event Viewer to get GP working, rather than solving the root cause of the issue (duplicate DLL). While this will allow Dynamics GP to launch, it prevents all the functionality provided by the Addin DLL from working, which includes registration.

Thanks

David
