Security in Microsoft Dynamics GP – Determine What You Need and then How to Audit It!

There are several options when configuring user access to Microsoft Dynamics GP.  From Limited User access to Full User access; through a full client or a web client; by assigning roles and modified windows/reports; and even thr0ugh Management Reporter designers vs. web viewers – your options seem unlimited.   Once you understand these options, you’ll have to report and audit the access you’ve given each person.

Here are 3 ways to become more knowledgeable in your Microsoft Dynamics GP user access options - and reporting the user access.

  1. First, Microsoft offers customers the option of licensing full vs. limited access licenses.  Here’s a non-technical explanation from Microsoft’s Senior Product Manager, Pam Misialek on leveraging the Limited User in Microsoft Dynamics GP.  There are many more Microsoft “On-Demand” webcasts (including leveraging the Microsoft Dynamics GP Web Client) at https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/OnDemandWebcasts.
  2. Our team at Collins Computing has created many on-line videos, including user security setup options and GP Web client capabilities, so our customers can easily decide upon and configure their employee access.  Of course we also work with our clients individually to create the specific user experiences they require.
  3. Once you configure Microsoft Dynamics GP users, your auditors may want to know exactly which roles, windows, and reports they have access to.  The Collins Computing Security Auditing article we wrote for the GPUG (Microsoft Dynamics User Group) Magazine this month can help you answer those specific questions that could take hours to answer without this tip.

Along with offering support plans, individualized training, and development services, Collins Computing hosts complimentary monthly webcasts for our existing customers. The subject matter includes popular Microsoft ERP topics; “undocumented” features that sometimes get left off the “What’s New” documentation published; and “How To” showcases on integrated products from the Microsoft Channel.

Be sure your Microsoft Dynamics solution partner stays abreast of your options and shares this information with your team.  From our support techs and consultants to our developers and marketing gurus, our customers can be assured we will consistently share “hidden” features, product promotions, and upcoming Microsoft news so your team can process, report, and respond to your auditors, customers, vendors, and employees' needs at all times!

Contact Collins Computing today, because your team should meet our team!
