Hi everyone,

We have recently switched to Business Central. Previously we had these values for Inventory items, On hand, Available and Commited. Their definitiosn are below. There are no such fields in business central and we can't figure out what fields combine the values we need.

  • On Hand: The total physical quantity of an item in inventory.

  • Available: The quantity that is ready to be sold or used, calculated as On Hand - Committed.

  • Committed: The quantity reserved for sales orders, production orders, etc.

  •
Attached is a screenshot with values for three of our inventory items.

    Hello,

In Business Central, the logic is the same as what you’re used to but it’s presented a bit differently. Think of Inventory as your On Hand quantity, meaning the actual physical stock you have. What you called Committed is mostly reflected in Qty. on Sales Orders (and reservations, if you’re using them), since that stock is already promised to someone.

Now, for Available, Business Central doesn’t just do a simple On Hand – Committed. Instead, it takes a smarter approach it looks at your current stock, subtracts demand (like sales or production orders), and also adds incoming supply (like purchase or production orders). That’s why you’ll see fields like Available Inventory or Projected Available Balance.

So even if the numbers don’t match your old system exactly, Business Central is actually giving you a more real-time and practical view of what you can truly sell or use.

Hope this answer will help you!

    Regards,
    Mansi Soni
