Partial Shipments Posting as Full

Hi:

In Business Central, ee are running into an issue with posting of shipments.  BC seems to be fully shipping the partial shipments.

Partial shipments are being posted as a full shipment.

I went in and tried to post the shipping under my profile, and it worked just fine. This seems to be isolated to only one user.

Thoughts?

John

    Hi John,

Since you mentioned that it works properly under your profile, the most likely scenario is the user isn't posting shipments properly. If you are using warehouse shipments they may just be selecting "Autofill Quantity to Ship".

This can also happen if your default quantity to ship is set as remainder. It's quite easy to miss changing the qty. to ship amount. I would go and check your Sales & Receivables Setup page and double check this setting here:

If yours is showing as "Remainder" that may be causing the problem. For any distribution/operations functions I typically set this as "Blank" as a control so users have to physically enter what quantity is being shipped.

The first thing I will do is check the Quantity to Ship column. For a moment, let’s ignore the configuration—if the quantity is 10 and the Quantity to Ship is changed to 2, then the system should not process full shipping.

Check the configuration on Customer Master and make sure the shipping advice is set to partial.

    That's a strange problem.
Is this user's permission different from other users?
Or is there some custom feature affecting this? Could you try uninstalling the third-party extension first? Does the problem persist?

    Thanks.

    Hello John,
Most likely this is not a posting bug, but a user-specific page/setup issue. In standard BC, partial shipment depends on the Qty. to Ship field on the sales line (or on the warehouse shipment/pick if warehouse handling is used). Since it works correctly under your profile and fails only for one user, I’d first check that user’s personalization/profile, whether they’re posting from the same page/process as you, and whether a warehouse document is auto-filling the full outstanding quantity for them. In warehouse flows, BC can automatically populate Qty. to Ship from the picked/outstanding quantity, so if that user is posting from a warehouse shipment or a different page/action, it can look like BC is “fully shipping” the order. I’d compare the exact steps, visible fields, and page personalization between your user and theirs before looking anywhere else.
    Regards,

Thank you for the confirmation -

At this point, we need to do some trial and error, as something seems to be overriding the standard out-of-the-box functionality. Please assign yourself SUPER permissions (to rule out any permission-related issues). Temporarily uninstall all custom extensions (to check if any custom code is impacting the behavior).

Test the scenario with at least:

    • Two different users
    • Two different customers
    • Two different items

This will help rule out any user, customer, or item-specific issues.

If possible, also try replicating this in a different environment.
