Tenant Media Disconnect for Items List Page with Tall Tiles View

I guess this is more of a post-mortem. But wondering if anyone can speak to the logic of the Tenant Media table when it comes to Item images. In this case, we have been on BC SaaS v26.5 since early last month. Been live with BC SaaS for over a year now.

Up until just this past Friday, our items consistently displays images when using the Items list page's Tall Tiles view. Starting then all of a sudden seemingly random items wouldn't display their associated image. Although restoring our production environment into a sandbox resulted in the same items displaying images as expected.

The issue wasn't a broken/unassigned image placeholder appearing for the items in question. And drilling into the specific Item card resulted in the image appearing just fine. Just as suddenly the issue that began this past Friday resolved itself just a few minutes ago. No one fixed anything, in terms of manually re-uploading the item images, or my restarting the production environment.

Just wondering of any server-side caching or something affecting a BC SaaS environment that could come into play. Looking into Table 2000000184 - Tenant Media in production, Prohibit Cache is set to false for all entries.

Here's a vid cap where I walk through the examples --> Walkthrough. The working sandbox example was based on old data. I restored a production backup into a different sandbox as of 9:30 AM ET today and it worked fine as well. All of a sudden our production environment started working again for this functionality. With no one "fixing" anything.

This is a strange problem; it looks like a platform bug. The data isn't corrupted or deleted, it's just not being read. I did a simple test and it works fine.
Would switching browsers solve this? Or should you avoid using your browser's Security Mode?

    Thanks.

Yes we've tried changing browsers and clearing local browser cache. During the issue's lifespan the problem persisted. Then mysteriously an hour or so after I started testing things out, the problem ironed itself out. Definitely something on the back-end was awry. Very strange!

    Hi,

I checked it at my end as well, and it seems to work fine for me.

What I found using GPT is -

It can occur in BC SaaS when CDN edge caches fail to refresh properly. It’s transient and usually self-resolves once the cache re-syncs with the backend storage.

    What likely happened is:

    • The cached image metadata or thumbnail references for certain items on your environment's CDN edge temporarily failed or expired.

    • The other environment worked fine because it’s hosted in a different logical storage container and CDN endpoint.

    • Once Microsoft’s backend cache refreshed (typically within a few hours), all references began resolving again automatically — hence the “self-healing” effect you observed.

If it becomes recurring, you can raise a Microsoft Support ticket and mention "Inconsistent Media delivery for Tenant Media content” so the backend cache behavior can be checked for your tenant.

    Hope this helps.

    Hello,

Yes, what you saw was a temporary media caching glitch in BC SaaS. Item images in Tall Tiles view are loaded through the Tenant Media cache/CDN, while item cards pull directly from the database. When cache sync fails, some tiles go blank but the item card image still works.
It usually self-fixes once the CDN refreshes. No data loss, just cached thumbnails out of sync.

    Regards,
    Oussama Sabbouh
